Analysts at Gartner Praise CF

Mark Driver recently published a Gartner analyst note on ColdFusion which recommends that agencies and companies continue their investment in CF, as it has a strong future with Adobe and is continuing to grow its market. The Gartner ColdFusion note can be downloaded from adobe.com for free. Other quotes from Mark in the note: "...ColdFusion can provide unique value that is not fully addressed by any competing alternative technology. Most notably, ColdFusion is unmatched by any competitor for ease of use and technical capabilities. Boston University Social Networking Site via ColdFusion

Boston University's IT team recently built a Facebook-like site for their business school... a la ColdFusion with just one CF developer in 9 weeks. Mass High Tech published an article on it. Quick excerpt: "The system was developed by one programmer over nine weeks using Adobe Inc.'s ColdFusion and Oracle Corp.'s Oracle Database, DeFronzo said. "It's actually pretty slick for nine weeks," DeFronzo said. The network cost the school nothing more than nine weeks of the programmer's salary -- BU already had the ColdFusion and Oracle licenses. The system provides navigational links to Facebook, sports a portal to integrate information from LinkedIn profiles, and supports Google Inc.'s Gadgets. DeFronzo also plans to integrate the social network with student meal accounts, administration accounts, automated course evaluations, grades and schedules." [More]

New ColdFusion IDE - BOLT announced at MAX

Finally I can talk about this out loud. We announced just minutes ago in the day 2 key note at MAX that the CF team at Adobe is hard at work on an Eclipse based IDE for ColdFusion development, codenamed Bolt. The codename Bolt comes from some nostalgia of the past lightning bolt in the old CF logo but also reminds us that CF is RAD and we're commmitted to giving CF developers more RAD tools and features. Bolt will be tightly integrated with Centaur, but will be a separate product release and available separately from Centaur. Similar to Gumbo, with which Bolt is also tightly integrated, Bolt is another perspective in Eclipse, specifically for CF development.
