ColdFusion and Clustering

After noticing a lot of questions regarding CF & Clustering, we enlisted Mike Brunt(www.go2ria.com)to write an article representing the most current clustering & CF. Thanks Mike!

High availability clustering ColdFusion: Using ColdFusion Enterprise Manager

ColdFusion is increasingly in use in large enterprise environments many of which inevitably employ clustering of resources to provide redundancy and scalability. ColdFusion employs the underlying J2EE clustering paradigms and via Enterprise Manager in ColdFusion Administrator GUI provides a way to cluster our ColdFusion instances.

Nice article (as far as the server side of accomplishing this), but I'm a developer in a clustered-environment over which I have limited to no control, and I would love to see some methodology for debugging and solving dropped sessions across the cluster, and/or issues with how to control from the client side a server affinity (if possible). Perhaps some best practices (including examples...code examples are always good) for establish sessions that reduce risk for dropping, or controlling the session should the a member of the cluster drops...

@Kristen, thank you very much for pointing out this article and I hope to follow up with more useful pieces on ColdFusion in large enterprise environments.

@Brian, are you experiencing problems where user session information is being lost? If so can you give me an example of that so I can be focussed in my response.

We have implemented clustering on our production servers and are very happy with it thus far. There were a few wrinkles that needed to be ironed out in the beginning, though.

My colleague Steven Wood discussed some of the experience in a blog post (at his personal blog):

For anyone that's interested, I'm sure he would answer questions about the theory versus the practice in a production environment.

Cheers,

David
