Welcome to my blog!

November 6, 2007 5:01 PM

Greetings,

As you've likely heard, I'm the newest ColdFusion Product Marketing Manager - Tim Buntel's previous position prior to him moving over to Flex to spread the CF love there.

Little background on me... I've been with the ColdFusion product team since the Allaire days, up until a month ago as the Program Manager for the majority of the past seven years. If you haven't heard of me it's because I was behind the scenes making sure we built the right release, in the right time frame and working with all the organizations within Allaire, Macromedia and then Adobe to get the product shipped. I also moonlighted on other products (Flex 1.0 and Flash Player for Mobile & Devices)on and off during the years.

I'm very excited to drive CF's success on the marketing side now and will look to you for your community input along the way. Come visit me here and recieve the latest information on ColdFusion events, news and also to partipate in discussions where I'll be soliciting feedback from you on crazy ideas, messages and to keep in touch on things that are important in your lives as developers.. e.g. CF support for 64 bit, once we announce it ;).. we are currently "working on it".

I look forward to hearing from you.

- Kristen

Welcome! I think you have the hardest job on the CF team, but the good news is you can only do better! I do not mean to criticize your predecessors, because they have had a hard job marketing CF against some stiff, sometimes "free", competition. I hope the fabulous merits of CF8 along with the new Adobe masthead (and the new focus on it that Adobe seems to be placing on the product) will help you market CF to a wider audience.

Please let those of us in the trenches know how we can help you spread the "CF love". I know I sell at lease one copy of Standard per quarter just bragging on CF.

Warmest Regards,
Troy

Welcome Kristen! Good to see an "experienced Allaire" member spearheading the team now. Hope you can see the growing demand and power of Apple Server products as well and drive the support for them in the future. We're 64bit ready... bring it on!

Happy to report CF8 Standard runs super-fast on our Apple XServe(Intel) machines btw. Leaves CF7 Enterprise in the dust on the (admittedly single-) XEON Windows 2003 Server machines...

Congrats Kristen. This is quite an inspiring change, especially with someone who has been devoted to ColdFusion for so long. A suggestion right outta the gate, make yourself known to the Adobe User Groups. User Group members have their fingers on the pulse of ColdFusion's target audience. Stay in touch with Ed Sullivan and Christine Lawson. It would very nice to see a Wednesday Connect Presentation from you about the considerations of marketing ColdFusion, the goals, and perhaps you could dispel some myths too, all of which would empower a pseudo sales force that doesn't even get paid by Adobe. You'd get myriad feedback as well.

Kristen,

Congratulations on the new job. And I don't think ColdFusion developers are too demanding...I could really use a <cfCleanUpAfterTheKids> tag though... If you can make that happen, my wife and I would really appreciate it.

Kristen,

Let me add my welcome among the many others. I have a comment that is somewhat marketing related. I have been a CF user since version 1.0 and I think it's a great
product! I had one disappointment with CF8 - the Server Monitor is not available in Standard Edition. I use that edition and would love to be able to use the monitor.
To me, the marketing of Enterprise Edition is all about the database drivers and not Server Monitor. I don't see a user like myself jumping to Enterprise just for Server Monitor nor do I see an Enterprise user "downgrading" to Standard for the same reason. I think having Server Monitor avilable in Standard Edition is just another great reason for new users to go with CF and for long time users like me to continue to get full value from the product we have used for many years.

If you are able to comment some time in the future, that would be great. And if you can make the case to the "powers that be" for having this feature in Stanrd Edition, that would be even better! Thanks for helping bring such great products to us over the years.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. It was great meeting many of you at the MAX events in Chicago and in Barcelona and on the tour I just did through Europe w/ Tim and Ben. With regards to the - emm hmm - difficulty level of the CF crowd, I've beeen around looong enough to form my own opinions there. ;) Seriously though, I couldn't dream of a more passionate group.

I don't have kids yet but I could use a <cfCleanUpAfterTheHusband> tag. I'll get the team working on it.

I hear you about Standard Edition and the Server Monitor and will bring the feedback back to the team.

Congrats Kristen,
I ate breakfast with you and Tim on one of the dates at the Chicago MAX. I thought we had a great conversation. I just wanted to tell you how I'm crazy for CF and now even more so Flex. I have created a dozen amazing just like the sample flex apps all using RO to CF. It as been very difficult, but really the results are amazing. I am so happy with the way things worked out with CF Adobe and Flex. Well anyways looking forward to GREATNESS.

I agree 100% with Kevin Lemke: The only product differentiation between Ent and Std that made me think "now that's just not right" was the lack of Server Monitor in Standard Edition. You could still differentiate by providing only "Single Monitor" in Std, and "Multiple Monitor" in Ent. Even a "scaled back" version of Single Monitor would be great...maybe just some of the key indicators that we all need to be able to see, and the ability to kill individual threads.

Just a chime in on the server monitor issue: My company is actually waiting until 02.08 to upgrade to CF 8 Standard (though I'm going to make a whole-hearted case for Enterprise when the time comes), but IF THE SERVER MONITOR would've been part of Standard they literally would've agreed to upgrade months ago. Just a fun tid bit to go along with what's already said. I wonder how many similar situations there are out there to mine. The server monitor is a serious piece of software, and bundling it with Standard would be a serious asset in the already well-established argument for ColdFusion being the best in its class. Holla atcha boy.

I've seen a few people mention that it would be nice to have the Server Monitor in Standard. I think that would be nice too. But don't forget - you can use the SM for more then just a monitor on your production machine. You can run it on your dev machine. While it isn't the same as a production environment, you can still make _quite_ good use out of it, especially if you mix it with load testing software.
