Please tell me that this release will work for me. I'm running an Intel Core Duo MacBook Pro. This is a 32 bit processor. I'm also running a Dual G5 PowerMac. This is a 64 bit PowerPC processor.

Hey Kristen, can you clarify (as some may ask), do you mean 64 bit support only for Leopard? Or might this also mean 64 bit for Windows? It's just unclear, and all the more so when you say "64 bit or Leopard" in your blog entry title, but "64 bit and Leopard" in the text. :-) Just trying to forestall any confusion. Thanks.

Hi Charlie,

I mention them as two distinct OS's supported. The beta will be supporting both: 64 bit for Windows (full stop) and Max OSX Leopard. My question in the subject line was to raise interest in either OS - but the beta support both, hence the "and".

Hi Shigeru - As with all betas, you'll have to join to find out. ;)

Kristen,

Can you clear up one more thing? You mentioned that its 64 bit on Windows. Will it also be 64 bit on Leopard as well?

Thanks!

Great news on 64bit support. What are the implications of using 32bit cfx tags on 64bit CF?

Big Al - I conferred w/ an eng on my team and his response is:
CFX tags used native code that will need to be compiled in 64 bit otherwise JVM 64 will throw an error while loading the CFX dll.
For 64 bit CF 64 bit CFX dll's are used.

I'd just like to clarify, for those who may come along reading this later (since so many are now linking to it), that you may find some of the comments above rather curious (including mine), as if we didn't read the blog entry. Instead, it's simply that the original entry was different and Kristen has since revised it (I suppose in response to some of the questions).

What it offered at first was, "We're in beta now with a release of CF that will support 64 bit and Leopard and want to make sure its ready for prime time. Interested in joining this beta program?"

I'm not complaining about that (glad to see the clarifications, since some never bother to read comments). Just clarifying in case some may be curious. :-)

That's right Charlie.. thanks for clarifying in the comments as well. My prerelease team asked me to change where I directed everyone to sign up for the beta (via a form vs. email address). I took the chance to update what was previously confusing directly in the posting - assuming not everyone would have read the comments.

Cheers,
Kristen

Big Al - more to your question on the implications of 64bit and cfx tags from engineering.. we have done the compilation of the native code and it will be available with the updater release. So for customers, cfx tags on 64bit CF will work out of the box.

Hi Kristen,

Ive gone on the link for CF8 Beta, registration via Adobe and still waiting for an email back. Is there anyway to check the status and whether I will be getting a link soon? I really need to have CF8 working on Leopard.

Thanks Kristen!

Just signed up for this (I was referred here from Jeff Coughlin's blog - http://www.jeffcoughlin.com/blog/index.cfm/2007/10... )

I've been having a hard time getting CF8 up and running on my 15" 2.2ghz MBP SR w/ Leopard. For the time being, I plan to just work with Parallels to get my CF site off the ground. It might be kind of a good thing because I want to use an MS Access database right now too because I had a hard time getting MySQL running on Leopard as well (and since my CF wasn't working anyways, I wasn't really motivated to figure out the problem).

Looking forward to having CF8 working natively on my MBP and Leopard though in the near future.

It will be very helpful to have the 64-bit version available. Even if it's not critical for a particular
site's capability, having ColdFusion as a 64-bit server will increase its credibility and deflect
criticisms regarding the scalability of ColdFusion based sites.
